Monroe County Arts Alliance Chalk-a-lot 2022

Philomena+Ruth sponsored a local artist on behalf of Waterloo Listens to participate in the Monroe County Arts Alliance Chalk-a-lot.

September 1st, 2022

International Overdose Awareness Day event 2022

A small event was held at Philomena+Ruth in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. Participants shared about their experiences with losing loved ones to overdose including displaying photos, others shared about surviving overdose themselves. Guest speakers included mental health professionals working in addiction treatment that shared information relevant to preventing overdose.

Waterloo Listens Discussion Group is formed

Members who planned the Waterloo Speaks event create the Waterloo Listens Facebook discussion group to continue the discussion about racial and social justice.

July 1st, 2022

2nd Waterloo Listens Anniversary Party

Waterloo Listens celebrates it's 2nd anniversary with a party at a pavilion at Lakeview Park. Hot dogs and refreshments were provided. Members shared about events and efforts of the previous year and plans for the future. 

June 25th, 2022

1st Annual Anniversary Party

Waterloo Listens celebrates it's 1st anniversary with an inaugural general assembly. Through break out discussions, members brainstorm efforts for the next year as well as forming initial subcommittees.

Welcome Neighbor STL Supper Club

Waterloo Listens organized a Welcome Neighbor Supper Club event with the event space and kitchen provided by the St. Paul United Church of Christ. Refugees from Syria prepared traditional cultural meals for patrons to raise funds for their future restaurant and catering businesses. Refugees shared their experiences during the program.

Waterloo Speaks Event

Young adults in Waterloo plan the “Waterloo Speaks” event in response to the murder of George Floyd that is held on Mill St. in front of the Monroe County Courthouse. A variety of speakers shared their experiences with racial injustice in the region, the murder of George Floyd is recognized.
