Waterloo Listens announcing via social media and email receiving the award of $10,000 of the It Gets Better Grant on behalf of the WHS Diversity Club for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Open to All Campaign Launched
A "letter to the editor" in the Republic-Times is published explaining the Open to All Pledge that business and intuitions can participate in to let the public know they are dedicated to non-descriptions of employees and patrons.

LGBTQIA+ Living Millennially Coffee Fundraiser
Living Millennially Coffee Pop Up and Roasters provided a coffee bean fundraiser with $5 of each bag going to the WL LGBTQIA+ programming fund.

Open to All Letter Campaign
Waterloo Listens sends letters to local businesses, organizations, schools and churches requesting that they take the βOpen to Allβ pledge, and sent letters to the 14 local businesses that have the Open to All attribute set in their Yelp listing.

May 2023 Recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month at HSS
Human Support Services hosts the WL May 2023 General Assembly in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. WL attendees learn about services and programs provided by HSS.

Pride Wreath Fundraiser
Members of Waterloo Listens create rainbow floral wreaths and rainbow ribbon door hangers to raise money for WL LGBTQIA+ programs and providing programs and support to the WHS Diversity Club.

2023 Earth Day Clean Up
Waterloo Listens form teams to pick up trash throughout town. The City of Waterloo provided clean up equipment.

Conversations at Philomena & Ruth
WL hosted a supportive event for LGBTQIA+ community members and allies at local merchant Philomena+Ruth in response to anti-trans actions amongst students at WHS. Local LGBTQ+ support groups from the region were invited to speak and share resources. Local small businesses provided refreshments and over 80 local individuals attended.

Candidate Questionnaire for 2023 Local Elections
A committee of WL members conducted a questionnaire of candidates running for local offices in Waterloo and WL shared results on social media.

Donation Check Presented to Morrison Talbott Library
Members attending a WL General Assembly present a donation check of $300 to the Morrison Talbott Library. Funds were raised via a t-shirt fundraiser with shirts sold through local merchant Philomena+Ruth.

Bingo at HSS for MLK Day of Service
Waterloo Listens held a BINGO Night for clients of Human Support Services in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr National Day of Service. Volunteers provided BINGO and WL members donated attendance prizes, beverages, cake and ice cream.

Banned Book Fair at Morrison-Talbott Library
WL members spent months planning an event to highlight the importance of promoting literacy and combatting censorship in literature. Guest speakers shared their thoughts on the importance of reading banned and challenged books and read excerpts of a chosen book. Participants rotated from 4 tables to discuss different banned and challenged books with volunteers at each table leading discussions. Simultaneously break out sessions were held for different age groups for children's books.

Members vote to adopt organizational bylaws at January 2023 General Assembly.

WL t-shirt fundraiser launches on the Philomena+Ruth website with proceeds benefiting the Morrison-Talbott Library. T-shirt design created by P+R owner Elizabeth Hahn.

Adopt Organizational Structure & Elect Board Members
At the December 2022 General Assembly, members vote to adopt an organizational structure, nominate, and vote to elect a Board of Directors as WL forms a more formal civic organization.

Members spend time during the November 2022 General Assembly proposing and discussing various options for a formal organizational structure.

Pumpkinfest Table 2022
WL members hosted a table for Waterloo Pumpkinfest inside local merchant Philomena+Ruth. Volunteers at the table shared information about WL efforts, how to get involved, provided sign up sheets for our email list, and began promoted the Banned Book Fair event coming up in January 2023.

Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention
WL members participated in the Out of the Darkness Walk in 2022 to raise awareness of suicide prevention and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

International Day of Peace 2022
St. Paul United Church of Christ planned and hosted an International Day of Peace event with Waterloo Listens. The theme for 2022 was "global racial justice;" this topic was the discussed in small groups and by guest speakers.
