Join us for our April 2025 General Assembly on Monday, April 14th! This month we will welcome guest speaker Krissy Avise-Rouse, Pastor of Ephiphany UCC, to speak on "Religion and the Queer Community".
Rev. Avise-Rouse was born in Des Moines, Iowa and has lived all over the country. After careers in ad specialty production, customer service, and software testing Pastor Krissy attended Eden Seminary, graduating in 2006.
Ordained at St. Paul UCC, Waterloo, IL that July, Kris served at Immanuel UCC, Darlington, WI and St. Paul UCC, Columbia, IL.
Krissy is a client and volunteer with Metro Trans Umbrella Group in St. Louis. Krissy is a queer elder in their fifties, married over thirty years with two adult children, a grandchild, and two cat children. A trans feminine genderqueer, Krissy uses they/she pronouns and goes by Pastor Kris, Pastor Krissy, or PK.
Krissy will tell her story, recount a brief evolution of different religions' views regarding the queer community, and ways queer individuals can find safe religious spaces.
We welcome guest speakers to honor the Listen in Waterloo Listens, but we're counting on you to bring the Waterloo. Bring your friends and family. Pastor Krissy will entertain a Q&A, so bring your curiosity, too!
The meeting starts at 7pm at the Morrison-Talbott Library in Waterloo, Illinois.
If you would like to attend virtually, please email us at waterloolistens@gmail.com for Zoom login information.
